A district court in Islamabad dismissed a Rs20 billion defamation lawsuit filed against Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan by former Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry on Saturday, over ten years later.
In July 2014, the former CJP issued Khan a defamation notice totaling Rs20 billion for accusing him of manipulating the 2013 general election.
Chaudhry’s lawyers had warned Khan that legal action would be taken against him if he did not apologise for the previous claims against their client.
However, in January 2015, the former top judge launched a formal complaint against the PTI founder in the federal capital’s district and session courts. In his case, the former CJP claimed that the PTI founder made insulting statements about him in a statement released on June 27, 2014. It further stated that Khan made false and falsified claims against the judiciary.
