KARACHI: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) suspended Dr. Mohan Manjiani, a Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) member of the National Assembly (MNA) who was elected on a minority seat during the February 8 general election, on Tuesday.
The electoral body issued a statement stating that Manjiyani’s membership will be suspended until further notice.
The ban came when Manjiani purportedly handed in his resignation to the ECP; however, the legislator denied resigning and claimed that the signatures on the document were not his.
Manjiani told News that the initials on the resignation letter given to ECP were “fake”. The case concerning his NA membership was still pending before the election tribunal.
Furthermore, he stated that he was not considering contacting the party about the subject because there was no room left for it.
Manjiani also stated that he has been to Dubai.
The MQM-P Rabita Committee responded to the development by stating that the party asked Manjiani’s resignation after obtaining intelligence reports about his involvement in several unlawful and anti-state acts.
It added that Manjiani’s activities at the Indian embassy in Islamabad were also observed.
