Citing the government’s refusal to engage in meaningful negotiations on important problems, Pakistani traders will go on a statewide shutterdown strike on August 28, according to President of the traders group Kashif Chaudhry.
After two months of failed negotiations, Chaudhry declared, “The Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has been in constant contact with me, but we will no longer negotiate without concrete action.”
The government’s refusal to abandon the divisive dost scheme and offer a workable strategy to amend contracts with Independent Power Producers (IPPs) is the reason behind the strike.
Chaudhry said, “Until the business-friendly scheme is abolished, we will not deposit advance tax under it.” He stressed that talks will end on August 28 if there is no word from the government by that evening.
