Tata had declared in January that it would be consulting on severing as many as 2,800 UK jobs, the most of which were at the largest steelworks in the nation, located in Port Talbot, South Wales.
It came after it was confirmed that the Indian-owned company intended to replace the plant’s blast furnaces with electric arc furnaces as part of a cost- and emissions-cutting strategy.
On Thursday morning, representatives of news, Unite, and Community unions met with their Tata counterparts at a hotel in London to discuss the next steps.
However, according to the news, Tata told them that the blast furnaces would close by the end of September.
