ISLAMABAD: According to sources who spoke to Geo News on Sunday, the government’s investigative team called 13 owners of independent power producers (IPPs) to Islamabad after finding “additional profiteering” by power plants built as part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).
The sources further stated that the IPP owners have been instructed to bring financial records tomorrow, with Special Assistant to PM (SAPM) on Power Division Muhammad Ali playing a crucial role in the investigation.
This is the result of a directive given by the Senate’s Functional Committee on Devolution last month to the relevant ministry to perform a forensic audit of the IPPs. The chair of the committee, Dr. Zarqa Suharwardy Taimur, expressed concerns regarding the IPPs’ operations and the opaqueness of the contracts they have with them.
