Early on Wednesday, a double-decker bus collided with a milk truck on the Lucknow-Agra Expressway in Unnao, Uttar Pradesh, resulting in at least 18 fatalities and 19 injuries.
According to Gaurang Rathi, the Unnao District Magistrate, the bus was headed from Motihari in Bihar to Delhi.
It hit the milk tanker close to Garha village from behind. People were thrown out of the bus and it was completely destroyed by the force of the hit.
To rescue victims and get the injured to hospitals, police and other emergency workers raced to the scene. Images from the site displayed broken glass, twisted metal pieces, dispersed bodies, and the remains of demolished goods.
The cause of the collision is being looked into. The bus may have been speeding, according to the preliminary investigation, DM Gaurang Rathi said.
The PMO declared an ex-gratia of Rs 50,000 for the injured and Rs 2 lakh for the deceased’s kin.
