At the conclusion of Wednesday’s parade celebrating Kansas City’s Super Bowl victory, gun violence left 22 people injured, including nine children, according to Children’s Mercy Hospital. Terrified spectators fled for safety as the shooting occurred, marring yet another high-profile public event. A DJ was among those who perished, according to her radio station.
At a press conference, Kansas City Police Chief Stacey Graves listed the casualties of the shooting and stated that three people had been taken into custody. She claimed she couldn’t verify rumors that fans may have assisted in capturing a suspect.
“I’m upset about what transpired today. “Those who attended this celebration ought to have anticipated a secure atmosphere,” stated Graves.
Police held off on releasing
any details about the people taken into custody or about a possible motive for the shootings. She said firearms had been recovered, but not what kind of weapons were used.
“There’s a lot of work ahead. This is just the beginning stages,” she said. “All of that is being actively investigated.”
After gunfire at a parking lot close to the Texas Rangers’ World Series championship parade last year and a shooting that left multiple people injured in downtown Denver following the Nuggets’ NBA championship, this is the most recent sporting event in the United States to be marred by gun violence.
