After a gun battle with the police, one of two attackers was killed and another injured in a shooting near the Israeli Consulate in Istanbul. The incident has been described by authorities as an act of serious terrorism that raises concerns over security.
Attack Near Consulate Sparks Panic
In Istanbul, the incident occurred in Besiktas’s bustling district where Israel consulates are located. Officials claim that the attackers drove from Izmit to Istanbul in a rental car, and then attacked in broad daylight.
The gunfire between suspects and officers lasted several minutes. The witnesses reported that the shooting was loud and continued, causing panic in nearby people.
Police Respond, One Attacker Killed
The security forces responded quickly to the attack and engaged with the attackers. During the gunfight, one of the attackers was killed and two other suspects were injured. Later, authorities confirmed that two of the suspects were brothers.
In the shooting, two police officers also sustained injuries. Both officers are in stable conditions and receiving medical attention.
