Former Disney CEO Bob Iger and Josh Kushner, the brother of US President Donald Trump’s son-in-law Jared, are purchasing the majority stake in one of the most recognizable sports clubs in the world. LA Lakers Set for Record $12.5bn Sale to Kushner and Iger In a deal that was unanimously authorized by the NBA Board of Governors in October 2025. Walter purchased his stake from the Buss family for an estimated $10 billion (£7.45 billion), setting a previous record. Kushner and Iger said: “As lifelong NBA fans, we are deeply honored for the opportunity to become stewards of the Los Angeles Lakers, one of the most iconic sports franchises in the world. “We greatly admire the vision and leadership of Jerry and Jeanie Buss. How Mark Walter Became Lakers Owner “Our long-term commitment is to build on that foundation, compete at the highest level, and serve this extraordinary team, its fans, and the city of Los Angeles.” In 1979, Jerry Buss purchased the Lakers for $67.5 million (£50 million), which also included the Los Angeles Kings hockey franchise and the Kia Forum, a Los Angeles arena. Before a contract was finalized with Walter, who also holds a part in the LA Dodgers alongside Todd Boehly, ownership was transferred to his six children in a trust upon his death in 2013. Lakers Have 17 NBA Championships “One of the greatest honors of my life has been owning the Los Angeles Lakers,” Walter remarked. The community, the supporters, and a city that views this team as family are what I will take with me, even if it has been an incredible investment. I appreciate being welcomed into this chapter by Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff. Los Angeles owns the Lakers, and I’m confident that the greatest is still to come.” The LA Lakers have won 17 NBA titles, one fewer than the Boston Celtics’ record of 18. Kushner’s involvement in the recent scandal regarding Fifa head Gianni Infantino and an abandoned plan before the sale. How the Buss Family Owned the Lakers I am appreciative to Jeanie Buss, the Buss family, the players, and the staff for allowing me to be a part of this chapter. US Hotels Fear Weak World Cup Tourism as Bookings Fall Short Tourism expectations fail to match reality US hotels are worried the upcoming World Cup will not deliver the expected tourism boost. Many host cities are reporting lower-than-expected bookings, raising doubts about the event’s economic impact. A report from the American Hotel & Lodging Association shows demand is falling behind forecasts across most locations. The group represents more than 32,000 hotel properties and a large share of franchised hotels in the United States. Conflict between booking data and ticket sales The association says hotel demand does not match FIFA’s claim that over five million tickets have already been sold. It warns that the expected financial gains from the tournament could be lower than projected. Accusations over hotel room block bookings The report also criticizes FIFA for reserving large numbers of hotel rooms in advance. According to the association, this created artificial demand and pushed prices higher in early stages of booking. Later, FIFA cancelled a significant portion of those reservations. Hotel operators say this left gaps in availability and disrupted normal pricing patterns. FIFA has rejected these claims and does not agree with the criticism. Other factors behind weak demand Hotels say several issues are discouraging visitors. High ticket prices for matches are one concern. Expensive local transport and taxes are also adding pressure. Some operators also point to political tensions as another reason international travel interest has slowed. Economic outlook remains uncertain With lower bookings and mixed signals from ticket sales, the hospitality sector is now unsure about the World Cup’s overall economic benefit. Many hotels are preparing for weaker-than-expected revenue during the tournament period.

She met Brian Hickerson, her new lover, just before Nashville's production concluded. Later on, he became aggressive; according to Panettiere, he would smack her head against the wall and once battered her face so severely that she was unable to leave her home for weeks. In her 36 years, she faced more challenges than most, and she tried to deal with them by writing her book, which was released in May. She concluded by assuring readers that she had learned to "walk hand in hand with my triumphs and my tragedies, because they have made me who I am" and that she had come to terms with her past while maintaining optimism for the future.

The United States has increased political pressure on Cuba following new legal actions linked to past events involving former Cuban leadership. US officials describe Cuba as a national security concern and say a peaceful agreement between both countries remains unlikely at this stage.

Cuban leaders reject these claims. They describe the accusations as politically motivated and without legal basis. The situation has further strained relations between Havana and Washington.

Fuel Shortages Disrupt Daily Life in Cuba

Cuba continues to struggle with a severe fuel shortage. Limited supply has affected transport, electricity generation, and basic public services across the island.

Authorities have not been able to stabilize the energy system. As a result, many areas experience frequent and prolonged blackouts that can last for many hours each day.

Residents report major disruptions in their routines. Work, travel, and communication have all become more difficult under unstable power conditions.

Life Inside Havana During Long Blackouts

In Havana, daily life has become increasingly challenging. Many residents say they plan their day around electricity availability, which changes without warning.

One resident, a widow living on an upper floor in a residential building, said she rarely leaves her apartment because of unreliable lifts and constant power cuts. She explained that moving up and down many flights of stairs has become physically difficult and risky.

She also described a distressing experience during a recent blackout when she had to wait several hours before her husband’s body could be taken away after his death.

Many others in her building face similar difficulties, especially older residents who struggle with mobility when elevators stop working.

Growing Uncertainty Across the Island

Frequent outages have created a sense of uncertainty in daily life. People often do not know when electricity will return or how long it will last.

This unpredictability has made normal routines harder to maintain. Many households limit movement outside their homes to avoid being stranded during a blackout.

Key Developments in US Cuba Relations

Tensions have escalated following new US accusations tied to historical incidents involving Cuban leadership. US officials have also continued to call for political and economic reforms in Cuba.

Washington has suggested changes that could include economic liberalization and reduced foreign intelligence presence on the island. Cuban authorities strongly reject external demands for internal change.

Previous Article Rubio Calls Cuba a Threat as Havana Rejects US Claims US and Cuba Exchange Strong Statements Marco Rubio has described Cuba as a “national security threat” to the United States, while Cuban officials strongly denied the accusation and called the remarks misleading. Rubio made the comments before traveling to a NATO meeting in Sweden. His statement came shortly after the US government charged former Cuban president Raúl Castro with murder over the 1996 incident in which two planes were shot down, killing several US citizens. The US secretary of state said Washington still prefers a diplomatic solution with Cuba. However, he admitted that reaching a peaceful agreement may be difficult under the current leadership in Havana. Cuba Rejects Terrorism Accusations Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodríguez quickly rejected Rubio’s comments. He said Cuba has never threatened the United States and accused US officials of spreading false information. Rodríguez also denied claims that Cuba supports terrorism in the region. In a statement shared on social media, he accused Washington of increasing pressure on the island and encouraging hostility against the Cuban government. Tensions between both countries have grown in recent months as the Trump administration pushes for political and economic reforms in Cuba. Economic Pressure Increases on Cuba Cuba continues to face serious economic problems, including fuel shortages, food scarcity, and long electricity blackouts. Many experts believe US sanctions and restrictions on oil supplies have made the crisis worse. According to Rubio, Cuba has already accepted a $100 million humanitarian aid package from the United States. At the same time, the US government continues to pressure Havana for major reforms. American officials reportedly want Cuba to allow more foreign investment and reduce the influence of Russian and Chinese intelligence agencies operating on the island. Questions Grow Over Raúl Castro Charges The indictment against Raúl Castro has increased concerns about future US actions toward Cuba. Some political analysts compared the situation to earlier US pressure campaigns against Venezuela and its president, Nicolás Maduro. When reporters asked Rubio whether the US planned to bring Castro to America for trial, he avoided giving direct details. He stated that he would not publicly discuss any possible plans regarding the case. Rubio Calls Cuba a Threat as Havana Rejects US Claims
Next Article US troop moves raise questions across Europe US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has moved to calm concerns among allies after several shifting decisions on US troop deployments in Europe created confusion inside the alliance. The changes followed remarks by US President Donald Trump, who said the United States would send an additional 5,000 troops to Poland. This came shortly after a planned deployment of 4,000 troops to Poland was cancelled. At the same time, Washington also announced plans to reduce troop levels in Germany, which added to uncertainty among European allies. NATO allies react to mixed signals The series of announcements came as defence ministers from NATO met in Sweden. Officials described the situation as unclear and difficult to follow. Swedish Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard said the shifting updates were hard for allies to interpret, especially given how quickly the decisions changed. Rubio says troop levels are under review Rubio said the United States regularly reviews its military presence abroad. He explained that troop adjustments are part of broader global defence planning. He also said coordination with allies is ongoing, and that changes in Europe should not be seen as sudden or unplanned. According to Rubio, US forces are also active in the Middle East due to rising tensions involving Iran and related regional conflicts. Poland deployment announcement adds uncertainty The latest confusion grew after Trump announced the new troop deployment to Poland while NATO talks were still underway in Sweden. Trump linked the decision to his relationship with Polish President Karol Nawrocki, a long time supporter of his policies. The US Department of Defense had earlier paused the planned deployment of 4,000 troops to Poland, without clear explanation. Germany withdrawal decision adds to tensions Earlier in the month, Washington also confirmed plans to withdraw 5,000 troops from Germany. The decision followed political disagreements between Trump and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz over the conflict involving Iran. Officials have not clarified whether the troops being sent to Poland are part of those withdrawn from Germany or a separate force. NATO response and coordination efforts Despite the confusion, Rubio said the United States remains committed to NATO coordination. He stressed that changes in troop placement are being managed alongside allied governments. He added that the overall presence of US forces in Europe is being adjusted based on global security needs and current military priorities.
