Teacher Attacked After Student Asked for Homework Help
A 16 year old student is standing trial after allegedly attacking a teacher with a kitchen knife inside a classroom at a secondary school in Pembrokeshire.
According to prosecutors, the incident happened at Milford Haven Comprehensive School when the teenager approached teacher Vicki Williams and asked for help with his homework. She agreed to assist him and walked into a classroom with him.
The court heard that the student closed the classroom door behind him while carrying a school bag. As they spoke, he searched inside the bag before suddenly pulling out a large kitchen knife and attacking the teacher.
Teacher Fought Back During the Violent Attack
Prosecutors told the court that the teenager lunged toward Williams and stabbed her in the head before trying to continue the assault. She immediately fought back by grabbing his arm and attempting to stop the knife.
The attacker then pushed her backward into a chair. To protect herself, Williams raised her legs and continued resisting while screaming for help. During the terrifying struggle, she feared the weapon could be fatal.
The attack lasted for around two minutes before the student ran out of the classroom. Williams followed him while holding the knife, according to CCTV footage shown to the jury.
Colleagues Responded After Hearing Cries for Help
A fellow staff member rushed toward the classroom after hearing what was described in court as “gut wrenching” screams. Emergency services quickly arrived at the school, while officers secured the area.
School officials placed the campus into temporary lockdown to protect students and staff. The school remained closed the following day while investigators examined the scene.
Teacher Suffered Multiple Injuries
Williams received several injuries during the attack, including a 7 centimetre wound to her lower back. Medical teams treated her at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest.
The injuries were serious, but she survived after defending herself throughout the attack.
Teen Faces Multiple Criminal Charges
Police later arrested the teenager at his grandmother’s home.
The 16 year old, whose identity remains protected because of his age, has denied attempted murder, wounding with intent, and unlawful wounding. However, he previously admitted possessing the knife used during the incident.
The trial continues as prosecutors present evidence, including CCTV footage and witness testimony, to the jury.
