Duane “Keffe D” Davis was given a 40-year to life term by a Las Vegas, Nevada, court on Tuesday for the 1996 murder of artist Tupac Shakur. He will get credit for time already served, according to Judge Carli Kierny.
Although prosecutors stated at the time that the state would drop the gang-related part of Davis’s accusation, Davis, 63, was found guilty in August of murder with a deadly weapon with the purpose to promote, advance, or assist a criminal gang for his involvement in the crime. He had entered a not guilty plea.

Justice Served in Tupac Shakur Case
Davis briefly addressed the Court at his sentencing hearing, requesting the return of some of the items that the police had taken from his home, including his photographs.
He said that he had nothing else to say.In a statement, Clark County District Attorney Steve Wolfson stated, “Tupac Shakur and his loved ones have received justice today.”
“We hope that this sentence brings some closure and peace to Tupac’s family after nearly 30 years, even though no amount of prison time can bring him back.”
Tupac Murder Case Reveals Retaliation Motive
Shakur’s passing is one of the most infamous celebrity deaths in contemporary history, and he is regarded by many as a hip-hop music icon.
On September 7, 1996, he was shot while stopped at a red light in Las Vegas, and he passed away six days later.
Before Davis began to publicly discuss his own presence inside the white Cadillac that detectives had known drove up next to Shakur’s car at that stop signal on the nite of the shooting, the question of who could have fired the gunfire remained unsolved for years.
Conflicting Claims in Tupac Murder Trial
During Davis’ trial, Palal noticed that the defendant had considerably altered his statements since he first started talking candidly about the deadly incident. However, he informed the jury that essential aspects of his account were unchanged, such as the fact that Davis claimed to be inside a white Cadillac when the gunfire that murdered Shakur came from.
However, Davis’s lawyer Michael Sanft said that there was no proof, other from his client’s allegations, that Davis was in Las Vegas the nite Shakur was shot. He informed the jury that no physical data, such as phone logs or surveillance footage, were available.
Davis’ Memoir Details Tupac Shooting Involvement
By the time of his arrest and conviction in 2023, Davis was the only man alive among the four men inside the white Cadillac, according to the prosecution. Another guy was also deceased; according to the prosecution, he was the original donor of the pistol Davis used to shoot Shakur.
In his 2019 memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” Davis described his role in the shooting that killed Shakur and injured Knight, who was also in the targeted car. The prosecution rejected his lawyers’ efforts to get the memoir excluded from evidence during his trial.
