Recent predictions suggest that Pakistan may see temperatures approach the global April record of 50 degrees Celsius, which was previously attained by Nawabshah in April 2018, as a searing heatwave engulfs South Asia.
The Washington Post reports that this prediction comes after temperatures in the country’s south and center recently rose to an incredible 47°C last weekend.
Warnings have been issued nationwide due to the extreme heat, which is being caused by a large dome of high pressure.
From April 26 to 30, the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) issued a heatwave advisory, advising people to take the appropriate safety measures.
Nawabshah’s was validated by weather historian Maximiliano Herrera, who keeps an exacting record of monthly temperature extremes worldwide.
