In order to increase headroom, the automobile manufacturer—which is owned by Volvo—completely removed the rear glass and installed a camera in its place.
It claimed to offer drivers a “unique experience” and an improved perspective of the road behind them.
“You have a problem, because the window gets smaller and smaller and you have to have more headroom,” automotive journalist Quentin Willson said on Sky News. “Rear windows on cars have been getting smaller and smaller, and as more consumers want more voluptuous shapes.”
“So Volvo did a really smart thing and introduced this revolutionary back window to the globe, doing away with the rear window altogether.
Since December, the car has been in China, and no depressing remarks have been made.
“The argument is, I think, it actually gives you a better view because the camera is high definition, it’s a wider arc, and you see more than you would than through that grimy rear window.”
