ISLAMABAD Out of the overall demand of Rs11.9 billion, the federal cabinet’s Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) granted Rs4 billion for the enumerators who took part in the seventh population and housing census, according to a story published in The News on Friday.

This happened when the enumerators threatened to abstain from conducting their jobs in the approaching polls on February 8 because the administration was not paying them.

Technical supplemental grants (TSG) have been requested by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) for Rs11.9 billion, and the Ministry of Planning has provided a summary of this demand.

The ECC authorized the payment of Rs. 4 billion as TSG to enumerators who participated in the most recent census. The upcoming general election would have these same education department enumerators.

The Federal Minister for Finance, Revenue, and Economic Affairs, Dr. Shamshad Akhtar, chaired the ECC meeting on Thursday, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Finance.

The committee was briefed on the Aviation Division’s summary of TSG’s allocation of Rs500 million to the Ministry of Aviation for a sub-project named “Modernization Of Hydromet Services of PMD in Pakistan (MHSP)” in addition to the enumerators’ salaries.

Following careful consideration, the ECC accepted the summary.

After deliberations, the ECC also approved the importation of Sahiwal Bull from Pakistan as sperm donors for the National Artificial Insemination (AI) Program and the summary of Rs38.856 million for the Institutional Reforms Cell (IRC).

The summaries for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s rural roads damaged by flooding and Lahore’s model regions UC 99, 100, and 101 receiving clean drinking water from a countervalue money deposited under Japanese grant aid were also authorized.

Additionally, it was approved to provide extra funding through TSG totaling Rs. 1,591.624 million for the purchase of servers and the employment of consultants during FY2023–2024.

Additionally, for federal education and professional training, the ECC approved TSG totaling Rs7.15 billion for the “Actions To Strengthen Performance For Inclusive And Responsive Education (ASPIRE)” program during FY 2023–2024.

The Ministry of Housing and Works/Pak PWD provided summaries for the TSG amounts of Rs25.00 million, Rs319.500 million, and Rs51.960 million allocated to various projects.
