Global observers regarded El Salvador’s President Nayib Bukele, who calls himself the “world’s coolest dictator,” as having won a landslide reelection on Sunday.

In a statement released on Monday, U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken congratulated Bukele on his victory.

“The United States commends the work of electoral observers and looks forward to working with President-elect Bukele and Vice President-elect Felix Ulloa following their inauguration in June,” Blinken stated.
“For more than 160 years, the people of El Salvador have been integral to the United States. This relationship has been based on common values, familial ties, and regional relationships. US interests both domestically and internationally are directly impacted by events in El Salvador. We can only reach our best potential and get past the biggest challenges by cooperating.

both worldwide and in our hemisphere,” Blinken remarked. “Looking ahead, the United States will continue to prioritize good governance, inclusive economic prosperity, fair trial guarantees, and human rights in El Salvador under our Root Causes Strategy.”

Ilan Almar, a member of “Squad,” met with the president of the former “Murder Capital” prior to his reelection.

After slightly over 70% of the votes were counted, Bukele had 83% of the vote, considerably ahead of his closest rival, the communist Farabundo Martí National Liberation Front, which had only 7%. This information was reported by Reuters.

Before the official results were released, Bukele declared himself the winner, claiming to have received more than 85% of the vote.

As of late Sunday, 31% of voting stations’ ballots had been counted, based on early results from the Supreme Electoral Tribunal.
Standing with his spouse on the National Palace balcony on Sunday, Bukele declared, “All together the opposition was pulverized,” as reported by Reuters. “El Salvador changed from being the most dangerous to the safest nation. Now, observe what transpires over the next five years.
