LAHORE: Mohsin Naqvi, the caretaker chief minister of Punjab, was chosen unanimously to lead the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) for the ensuing three years, according to a Tuesday report from Geo News.

PCB Chief Election Commissioner Shah Khawar announced the news at a press conference, stating that Naqvi is the new chairman as of right now and will assume the duties in a few days.

After taking over for Zaka Ashraf, the outgoing chairman of the PCB Management Committee, at the Board of Governors (BoG), Naqvi became the 37th chairman of the cricket board.

“Mohsin Naqvi may accept the chairmanship in addition to his post as chief minister. The legislation and the constitution have no limitations that would prevent him from taking over as chairman right away,” stated Khawar.

According to him, the cricket organization has established a board in compliance with the constitution. “The forthcoming events will feature excellent decisions and work,” the top electoral commissioner continued.

Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaar-ul-Haq Kakar selected Naqvi, the proprietor of a media station and acting chief minister for the cricket body’s board of governors. Naqvi has been in that role for a year.

“I’ll work to resolve the problems hurting cricket in Pakistan. Cricket reforms are desperately needed right now, Naqvi had stated.

Ashraf resigned from his position as PCB Management Committee chairman earlier in January. The 72-year-old declared his resignation in front of the committee.

On July 6, Ashraf was elected to the PCB Board of Governors and took over as chairman, succeeding Najam Sethi in that capacity.

“I was working for the betterment of cricket but it is not possible for us to work in this way,” he stated.

Pakistan participated in two important events under Ashraf’s leadership: the Asia Cup and the ODI World Cup.

The Men in Green were not only unable to go to the World Cup semi-finals but also to the final of the regional event.
