Maryam Nawaz, Senior Vice President of the Pakistan Muslim League (PML-N), denied on Wednesday that party supremo Nawaz Sharif had withdrawn from active politics after nominating his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif for Prime Minister.

In a post on X, Maryam stated that Nawaz will not only be involved in politics for the next five years, but will also monitor the PML-N-led governments in Punjab and at the Centre.

The lawmaker, who has been nominated to be Punjab’s chief minister, stated that her party received a clear majority of votes in the three previous governments led by the PML-N supremo.

“… he has made it clear in his election speeches that he will not be a part of any coalition government.”

She went on to say that individuals who are aware of Nawaz’s personality understand his principled attitude.

“Shehbaz Sharif and I are his soldiers, and we will follow his orders and work under his leadership and supervision.” May Allah give us success. “Amen,” Maryam said.

The PML-N stalwart’s statement comes as speculation about the elder Sharif’s retirement from politics heats up, with many on the social media site X expressing unhappiness with his decision to withdraw from the contest for prime minister and instead nominate his younger brother Shehbaz Sharif.

Mohammad Zubair, Nawaz’s former spokesperson, took to X to voice his disappointment, adding, “He was the one who inspired me to enter politics. His trust enabled me to make a name for myself in politics and gain positions. Sad to see him go like this. The votes N got were all due to him but the party did not do justice to him. Was this his last political battle?
