RAWALPINDI: Imran Khan, the founder of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has reportedly softened his attitude against political competitors by agreeing to conduct negotiations with the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) on the formation of a government at the Centre, according to party insiders.
According to sources, the jailed Khan is “ready” to speak with the PPP.
“The ties between the two political parties will be taken forward,” the sources said, adding that a committee will be formed to discuss government formation between the PTI and the PPP.
The development comes as Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has linked with other political parties, including the PPP, to establish a coalition government at the Centre, despite the PTI-backed independent candidates obtaining the most National Assembly seats in February.
The PTI has also intended to reach out to competitors like as Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl, Awami National Party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and other nationalist groups protesting alleged election rigging.
The news comes two days after PPP Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari declared his openness to hold discussions with the PTI to promote the country’s reconciliation process.
“We wanted the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf to be included in the reconciliation process because we want all political parties, not just the PTI, to be included.
“We want to work together with economic, defense, and other related agendas to make Mian Sahib and his friends successful so that Pakistan and its people successful,” he had announced at a joint press of six-party alliance on Tuesday.
