After being put into bat, the United experienced an early hurdle when David Willey dismissed Alex Hales on 8-ball 2. The wicket provided Mohammad Ali the confidence to stump New Zealander Colin Munro on 13-ball 8.

This brought Agha Salaman and Jordan Cox to the wicket.

The Sultans had won four of their last five games, while the United had won the most recent encounter against the host team.

During the toss, United captain Shadab Khan acknowledged that it was not the team’s responsibility to control the toss. However, he vowed to field his team with an aggressive approach.
