The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has issued a key instruction, instructing the senior party leadership, with the exception of Maryam Nawaz, to leave their provincial assembly seats.
The move, which aims to reshape the party’s strategy and political landscape, marks a significant shift inside the PML-N ranks.
According to party sources, PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif is set to abandon his Punjab Assembly seats in Kasur and Lahore, a departure from his long-standing presence in Punjab’s political arena, as he has been nominated as the Prime Ministerial nominee in the Centre.
Similarly, his son, Hamza Shehbaz, is anticipated to resign from his provincial seat in Lahore, strengthening the party’s reconfiguration efforts.
Other significant individuals among PML-N’s senior leadership, such as Sardar Ghulam Abbas from Chakwal, Rana Tanveer from Sheikhupura, PML-N Secretary General Ahsan Iqbal from Narowal, Awais Leghari from Dera Ghazi Khan, and Jam Kamal from Lasbela, have also been directed to vacate their respective provincial seats.
This decision comes as Maryam Nawaz prepares to take oath as Punjab’s chief minister, the first woman to do so, alongside newly elected members of the provincial parliament.
The decision demonstrates the PML-N’s commitment to modifying its political strategy and revitalizing its leadership. By vacating these provincial assembly seats, the party hopes to offer possibilities for new faces and talent to develop within its ranks, reviving its presence in various parts of the country.
