Although the prime minister of Israel claims he wants more concessions, there is growing hope that a second war halt can be reached soon.
Late on Saturday night, upon the return of Israeli envoys from their meeting with mediators from the US, Egypt, and Qatar, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu assembled ministers.
They “came to an understanding” on the fundamentals of a deal, White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan said US media.
Although the specifics of the war cabinet’s deliberations remain undisclosed, Israeli media sources quoted unidentified officials to suggest that a ceasefire of many weeks duration had been implicitly agreed upon.
This would be the second ceasefire after the first in November, when hundreds of Palestinians were liberated from Israeli prisons and their protests.
Speaking on the news show Face the Nation, Mr. Netanyahu said that Hamas needed to make more concessions and that a further ceasefire in the conflict wasn’t finalized yet.
“They’re not on Earth. We will, however, have a hostage deal if things get to a decent point. “Hopefully,” he murmured.
