Today, the election for the province’s chief executive began after a half-hour delay via an open ballot with those supporting Muran and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Khurshidi directed to go right and left of the assembly hall, respectively.
A total of 148 members of the assembly participated in the polling, which saw Murad secure 112 votes to become the 25th chief minister of Sindh in the contest against MQM-P Ali Khurshidi, who got only 36 votes to his name.
Murad Ali Shah, the leading leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), was elected chief minister of Sindh for the third term in a row, demonstrating his party’s consistent commitment to politics.
He was born in Karachi on August 11, 1962, and graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in 1977, DJ Government Science College in 1979, and NED University of Engineering and Technology in 1985 with a Bachelor of Civil Engineering.
Shah also earned two Master of Science degrees in Civil-Structural Engineering and Engineering Economic Systems from Stanford University in California in 1987 and 1993.
Between 1986 and 2002, he worked in both the public and commercial sectors of Pakistan, the United Kingdom, Kuwait, and the United States of America.
The chief minister has been elected three times.
