KARACHI: In anticipation of heavy rain, the Sindh government declared on Thursday that evening courses in schools would be cancelled tomorrow (Friday).
The Sindh School Education and Literacy Department issued a statement stating that all private and public evening shift schools will remain closed.
In light of the expected rains in the megalopolis, the Sindh government has declared a rain emergency in the province and decided to keep Karachi offices open for half a day on Friday.
In a post on X on Thursday, Karachi Mayor Murtaza Wahab Siddiqui stated that the half-day was decided as a “abundant precaution”. To reduce annoyance, he also recommended that citizens avoid unnecessary travel.
On Wednesday, the Pakistan Meteorological Department forecasted rain and windstorms, with the likelihood of isolated hailstorms in Sindh between February 29 and March 2.
Addressing the meeting regarding rain predictions, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah declared a rain emergency in the province. The chief minister’s spokesperson said the chief executive has put the local bodies, administrations and hospitals on high alert.
