LAHORE: The Embassy of Japan in Pakistan, in collaboration with the Pakistan-Japan Cultural Association (PJCA) Lahore and the Lahore Sogetsu Study Group, showcased Wagashi (traditional Japanese sweets) and ikebana flower arrangement, two of Japan’s most treasured cultural traditions that date back centuries.
The Wagashi exhibition, named “Wagashi: Art of the Five Senses,” included colorful, exquisite pieces of confectionary known as the art of the five senses because they are works of art created to appeal to all of the senses by their sight, flavor, aroma, feel, and the sounds of their names. While reflecting the diverse characteristics of nature and the changing seasons, Wagashi sweets are delicately sculpted and constructed, giving them the name of edible art.
Showcased were traditional sweets and Japanese floral art.
