Teary-eyed Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari praised the Supreme Court’s (SC) opinion on the conviction, judgment, and execution of late Prime Minister Zulfikar Ali Bhutto on Wednesday, calling the development “historic”.
“The court has acknowledged that Zulfikar did not receive a fair trial. We hope that as a result of today’s momentous developments — when history is being corrected — the future of this country, the court, and democracy will be successful,” an emotional Bilawal told the media outside the Supreme Court in Islamabad.
His statements came shortly after a nine-member bench of the top court, led by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa, declared its reserved opinion on the 2011 presidential reference seeking to reconsider the sentence and execution of Bhutto.
