KARACHI: The Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) has dissolved its Rabita Committee, the party’s top decision-making body, following the release of two audio recordings of its sessions.
An MQM-P spokeswoman stated that the party’s convenor, Khalid Maqbool Siddiqui, decided to dissolve the current Rabita Committee.
“The Rabita Committee has dissolved. It will be formed anew. “In the second phase, all departments, provincial committees, zones, towns, and UCs will be reorganized,” the spokeswoman stated.
The statement also stated that Siddiqui has organized an ad hoc committee, which he will lead. It will also include Mustafa Kamal, Farooq Sattar, Nasreen Jalil, Anis Kaimkhani, Kaif-ul-Wara, and Rizwan Babar.
Meanwhile, a party source confirmed to News that “the Rabita Committee has been dissolved due to audio leaks.”
Last month, two audio leaks of Rabita Committee sessions, one featuring Kamal and the other featuring Sindh Governor and MQM-P leader Kamran Tessori, went viral on social media.
Both leaders confirmed that the audio leaks were authentic, but Kamal said that they were released by a MQM-London member who also served on the Rabita Committee.
