PESHAWAR/LAHORE: The Peshawar High Court on Thursday extended the stay order on MPs’ oath-taking ceremonies for reserved seats denied to the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-backed Sunni Ittehad Council till March 13.
The court’s decision came during the hearing on the SIC’s petition about the allocation of reserved seats.
The court adjourned the hearing of the case till the aforementioned date, and it also summoned the Attorney General of Pakistan, Mansoor Usman Awan, to appear before the court at the next hearing.
A day earlier, the PHC prohibited parliamentarians notified on the aforementioned reserved seats from taking their oaths, barring members from swearing in, and instructed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to respond to the matter by today.
The directions were delivered during today’s hearing presided over by Justices Ishtiaq Ibrahim and Shakeel Ahmad. The court imposed a stay order, barring members from swearing in, and instructed the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to respond on the matter by Thursday.
The move occurred as the party said that it will contest the electoral body’s ruling, which was delivered on Monday and rejected the SIC’s—tto which the PTI-backed independent candidates had joined—pleasure for reserved seat distribution.
