Babar Azam, the captain of Peshawar Zalmi, stated on Monday that he played at number three for the sake of Pakistan, but he was personally dissatisfied with the position.
Speaking to reporters after Zalmi defeated Karachi Kings in a Pakistan Super League (PSL) match in Karachi, Babar stated that he felt no pressure and that whatever decision he made was in the best interests of the country.
Former Pakistan captain has long been an opening batsman for the national team, but after criticism of his supposed slow strike rate and a decision by the Pakistan Cricket Board administration, he began playing at number one.
However, in PSL season, he has been outstanding with Saim Ayub as his opening pair, scoring five half-centuries in ten games.
Babar commended his opening partner, stating it felt fantastic to open a match with Ayub while they communicated about the match circumstances.
“The way of my and Ayub’s playing is different as we strategise (a match),” he told reporters.
The Zalmi captain stated that Ayub had matured into a true all-rounder and that his club had discovered a fantastic bowling option in him.
