Pakistan Railways has revealed its longest freight train in history, marking a significant milestone in the country’s rail transportation sector.
This freight train, which is 2,500 feet long and has 50 bogies, heralds a new era of cargo transportation efficiency and capacity.
Powered by the fearsome GEU 40 super engine, the longest and heaviest freight train in the department’s history set out from Karachi, carrying over 3,000 tonnes of goods bound for Kotri. It reached a top speed of 60 km/h and averaged 38 km/h.
The sheer size of this freight vehicle’s capacity is startling, since it can carry more cargo than 94 22-wheeler trucks combined.This infrastructure not only improves cargo transportation efficiency, but it also reduces road traffic congestion, thus reducing environmental pollution.
By using Pakistan Railways’ wide reach and infrastructure, this innovative freight train demonstrates rail transportation’s potential as a sustainable and cost-effective method for moving commodities across the country.
