LAHORE: In a humanitarian gesture, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz broke her fast on Sunday with detainees of Central Jail Lahore in Kot Lakhpath, where she was once imprisoned, to demonstrate her solidarity for the inmates.
The provincial chief executive paid a visit to the prison and expressed her sympathy for the convicts by eating with them at Iftar and presenting them with gifts, clothing, and Rs15,000 in monetary assistance.
Marriyum Aurangzeb, Punjab Senior Minister, uploaded a video of CM Maryam visiting different portions of the jail and planting a tree in the garden on the occasion. Aside from visiting with jail officials, Maryam spoke with the inmates and inquired about their challenges and problems.
Maryam directed the preparation of today’s iftar menu, which featured Biryani, samosas, pakoras, fruits, and other savory items.
Previously, the Punjab chief minister dedicated a 20-bed hospital to the rehabilitation of drug users within the prison.
She also visited Pakistan’s first video call service for convicts at the Lahore Central Jail and assessed the quality of the meals supplied for the inmates.
Maryam shed tears when visiting the cell where she and her father, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) supremo Nawaz Sharif, were imprisoned.
