Barrister Gohar Khan, Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), expressed party founder Imran Khan’s concerns about deteriorating relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, criticizing the government’s “bad” foreign policy.
The new PTI chairman, who was chosen twice in the party’s fiercely disputed intra-party elections, decried the deterioration of relations between Islamabad and Kabul over security issues facing Pakistan’s northwestern frontiers.
Speaking to journalists outside the Adiala jail after meeting Khan, Gohar stated that the current crisis in Afghanistan did not arise during the PTI’s stint in government.
Islamabad’s relations with Afghanistan have remained strained due to increased terror attacks in Pakistan, which the nation alleges are launched from Afghan soil.
Barrister Gohar attributed the current state of affairs on the “bad” foreign policy of the Shehbaz Sharif-led government.
Earlier this week, Pakistani forces conducted intelligence-based operations (IBOs) in border regions inside Afghanistan, targeting terrorists involved in launching attacks from Afghan soil, particularly the March 16 attack in Mir Ali, North Waziristan, which killed hundreds of civilians and law enforcement officials.
