The American singer-songwriter told E! News on the most recent broadcast of American Idol that she wants Jelly Roll to take over as a judge when she departs this year.
“I gotta say Jelly Roll was crazy when he came on the show,” Perry remarked to the site.
She mentioned how much she admired Jelly and stated, “I might go back to church for him, he could be my pastor, or he could run for president.” He could make any thing work for me. It would be incredible to have Jelly and any of these guys on the show.
On the April 8 broadcast of American Idol, the Save Me singer made a rare cameo. “And to have any of these guys (referring to Idol judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie) plus Jelly on the show would be amazing,” the singer said. Jelly, you have my affection.”
The pop artist gave an explanation for her want for Jelly to succeed her, saying, “I want someone that is not afraid to tell the truth in a graceful way.”
Perry made her American Idol departure known during a February 2024 episode of Jimmy Kimmel Live! She had been a judge for seven seasons. “I think this probably will be my last show, my last season for Idol,” the woman remarked.
