A businessman from Palestine who was uprooted by the conflict in Gaza is providing other refugees with a taste of home by opening a Shawarma restaurant in Cairo.
In addition to other Palestinian and Arab meals, “The Restaurant of Rimal Neighbourhood” serves Shawarma, a Middle Eastern dish made with thinly sliced beef.
Basem Abu Al-Awn stated, “The name comes to eternalize Rimal, my neighborhood, and to eternalize my homeland too.” Additionally, it will take the place of the restaurant I owned in Gaza. Along with my house and my relatives’ houses, two of my restaurants were destroyed,” he claimed.
After the conflict between Israel and Hamas ends, Abu Al-Awn intends to return to Gaza. He thinks that his stay outside the territory will only be short.
