Four of the five victims died in Oklahoma, where officials said that at least 100 people were hurt. The severe weather also caused cars to be thrown across the street and destroyed houses and roofs.
In Sulphur, a small town of roughly 5,000 residents, there was significant damage as around 40 twisters are thought to have carved their way through central regions over the course of the weekend, according to experts.
It happens after on Friday, severe weather devastated other central areas.
Authorities verified that a guy passed away in Iowa due to injuries he received from a tornado in Pottawattamie County.
Governor Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma issued a disaster emergency for 12 counties while he was in Sulphur assessing the damage.
“The devastation is beyond comprehension. Every store in the downtown area appears to have been damaged,” he remarked.
“Definitely the most damage since I’ve been governor.”
He continued by saying that hundreds of people in Sulphur were left without electricity and that roughly thirty people were hurt, some of them were in a pub when the tornado struck.
