Justice Jamal Khan Mandokhail of the Pakistan Supreme Court stated on Tuesday that no action was being taken by the government in response to the claimed meddling in legal affairs.
Judge Mandokhail made these comments as the suo motu hearing on the Islamabad High Court (IHC) judges’ letter accusing agencies of interfering in judicial proceedings was resumed by a six-member bench of the highest court, presided over by Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa.
In addition, Justices Syed Mansoor Ali Shah, Jamal Khan Mandokhel, Athar Minallah, Musarrat Hilali, and Naeem Akhtar Afghan make up the bench.
Six IHC justices had urged on March 25 that CJP Isa call a judicial convention to discuss the issue of purported intelligence agent meddling in court proceedings or “intimidation” of judges. The Chief Justice, who also serves as the chairman of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), received a letter from the six IHC judges: Justice Mohsin Akhtar Kayani, Justice Babar Sattar, Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir, Justice Tariq Mahmood Jehangiri, Justice Sardar Ejaz Ishaq Khan, and Justice Saman Rifat Imtiaz.
