Residents in portions of Brixham were advised to boil their drinking water on Thursday after 22 instances of cryptosporidiosis were confirmed in and around the town.
Professor Paul Hunter, a medical microbiology specialist at the University of East Anglia, has now informed News that the problem might persist for at least a week and that “it’s not unusual to be ill for a month” with the waterborne disease.

He explained that if the parasite cryptosporidium, which causes cryptosporidiosis, is “a continuous thing” in water supplies for an extended length of time, “you’d expect to see more cases”.

South West Water reported “small traces” of the parasite.
