Despite gaining the nickname “Butcher of Tehran” for presiding over Iran’s human rights violations, the United Nations observed a moment of mourning for Ebrahim Raisi on Monday after the Iranian president died in a helicopter crash.
Representatives from Russia, China, and Algeria, including United States Deputy Ambassador to the United Nations Robert Wood, stood in the United Nations Security Council for a minute to honor Raisi.
Israeli U.N. Ambassador Gilad Erdan condemned the moment of quiet in commemoration of Raisi’s “mass murder.”
Erdan lambasted the United Nations Security Council for doing little to progress the release of the remaining hostages held by Hamas after the October 7 attack on Israel.
The UN observes a moment of silence for ‘Butcher of Tehran’ Raisi following the death of the Iranian president in a helicopter crash.
