Vice-Chairman of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Shah Mahmood Qureshi, was charged by the police on Sunday in eight additional offenses related to the chaos on May 9.
Qureshi is being held in numerous crimes at the Adiala Jail in Rawalpindi. In addition, Qureshi was sentenced to ten years in prison in the cipher case by a special court created under the Official Secrets Act.
Following the arrest of the ousted prime minister Imran Khan in connection with the £190 million settlement case, riots broke out nearly all across the nation on May 9. Hundreds of PTI employees and high-ranking officials were imprisoned last year due to their involvement in acts of violence and attacks against military sites.
The General Headquarters (GHQ) and Jinnah House were among the civic and military installations that the miscreants targeted during the protests.
A special police team in Lahore sought authorization from the ATC earlier today to detain, question, and summon the PTI leader in connection with a formal complaint filed with Police Station Sarwar Road.
However, the court rejected the request due to “security concerns.”
Instead, the investigating officer was given permission by the court to visit Adalia Jail and question the accused within three days.
