Xavi, who was fired by Germany last week, is replaced by Flick. Flick was fired in September of 2023.
After leading Bayern Munich to a treble in 2020—winning the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League—Flick joined the German national team.
The 35-year-old forward Robert Lewandowski of Barcelona spent two seasons at the Allianz Arena playing for Flick.
In 2020, Flick’s Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga, German Cup, and Champions League to clinch the treble.
Barcelona’s departing manager, Xavi, who was fired a month after the team announced he would stay, predicted his successor will “struggle” in the position.
In his first full season in charge, he led Barcelona to La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup, but this time around, the Catalan powerhouse fell 10 points short of La Liga champion Real Madrid.
“He has chosen a man well known for his teams’ high pressing, intense and daring style of play which has brought him great success at club level and international level, winning pretty much all there is to win in the world of football,” Barcelona said in an external statement on Wednesday.
Eight months have passed since Germany fired Flick, and he still has no job.
