South Carolina’s Greenville has a very interesting food culture.
While creative southern cuisine is widely available, it’s enjoyable to take a step back at places like Soby’s New South Cuisine (Sobys.com).
Here, it takes the shape of a white chocolate-based twist on a traditional banana cream pie.

Since the restaurant’s 1997 opening, this dessert has been the best-selling item on the menu.
Corporate chef at Soby’s New South Cuisine, Rodney Freidank, told News, “What makes this dessert so amazing is how rich and decadent it is, yet it seems so light when you are devouring a giant slice of it.”
It resembles the Krispy Kreme doughnut of pie crusts.
The well-liked neighborhood restaurant cooks the pies fresh every day to prevent browning of the bananas. It only utilizes fruits that are perfectly ripe.
“That extra shot of banana liqueur doesn’t hurt either when it comes to building the flavor of the pie,” Freidank said.
In any case, enjoy this dessert with a cup of French press coffee or your preferred bourbon; the recipe is provided.
