ISLAMABAD Mahmood Khan Achakzai, the chairman of the Pashtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PkMAP), was chosen by the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday to spearhead the negotiations through the opposition alliance’s platform, Tehreek-e-Tahafuz Ayeen (TTAP), according to sources who spoke to Geo News.
According to the sources, the development occurred after the PTI leadership approved of the use of the TTAP’s platform for stakeholder negotiations.
As soon as the PTI makes a decision, PkMAP leader Achakzai, who will have complete authority to lead the negotiations, would take additional action in this regard.
The negotiations will center on issues related to the release of imprisoned leaders and workers, electoral transparency, and the constitutional boundaries of the judiciary, parliament, and other branches of government. The development of a consensus among all stakeholders on a common charter will serve as the basis for the talks.
The sources added that the political leadership of the PTI will participate in the talks.
This comes a day after PTI Chairman Barrister Gohar announced that the party would hold talks with the government after speaking with Achakzai, and that Imran Khan, the party’s founder, has approved of talks with the government.
“We informed the PTI founder that communication is essential because the gap is growing. “He was in agreement with us [about this],” Gohar told reporters outside the Adiala jail.
