The 63-year-old comedian, who has been transparent about her vocal cord problems since receiving a lung cancer diagnosis in 2021, posted a video to Instagram on Tuesday that described the specifics of her upcoming surgery.
“I’m getting an implant in my left vocal cord, which was left permanently paralyzed during my lung cancer surgery, where they took out half my left lung,” she stated. “I also have an aperture, which is a tear above my vocal cords and that’s why sometimes when I’m doing stand-up my voice goes to a higher pitch.”

Griffin posted a picture of the gauze bandage covering her throat on Instagram on Wednesday along with a post-surgery update.
“The vocal cord surgery went smoothly. Some edema and scars are visible. If I can regain any of my voice, it will be worthwhile,” Griffin wrote as the photo’s caption.
