In response to the Supreme Court’s show-cause notice, Senator Faisal Vawda has submitted a fresh response and offered an unqualified apology in the contempt of court case against him.
Vawda wrote back, expressing regret and admitting that he is at the mercy of the legal system. He made it clear that he didn’t mean to offend the court, but he did admit that his news conference may have sent the wrong impression.
“In the light of Quranic teachings, I realized that there is no problem in expressing regret for what I have done,” the former leader of the PTI wrote.
Previously, in his first response to the contempt of court charges on June 4, Vawda had not extended an unqualified apology.
He said at the time that the goal of his press conference was to advance the nation, not to disparage the court.
Vawda has now asked the Supreme Court to drop the notice against him and show caution in moving forward with the contempt of court action. He emphasized that, as the chief judge of Pakistan recently said, the judiciary too need to own up to its errors.
