Pakistan will not ask for US assistance in carrying out Operation Azm-e-Istehkam, which was started to eradicate the threat of militancy from the nation, according to Defense Minister Khawaja Asif.

He stated that Pakistan had seen a notable increase in terrorist occurrences and that the decision to begin a fresh operation was not made hastily in an interview with a US media source.

Last Saturday, the Central Apex Committee on the National Action Plan (NAP) authorized “Operation Azm-e-Istehkam,” a revitalized national counterterrorism initiative aimed at eradicating terrorism from the nation.

The Jamiat Ulama-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), two opposition parties, demanded that parliament be given the benefit of the doubt regarding the military action.

In response to the opposition’s criticism in today’s interview, the minister of defense stated that certain political parties and groups are against the military action in order to score political points.

The speaker stated that the opposition parties would receive a briefing on the operation’s specifics and that “political parties’ reservations on Azm-e-Istehkam will be addressed and the [operation] will be discussed in parliament.”

Additionally, he claimed that some parties were opposing Azm-e-Ishtehkam on “political grounds” because they put their own interests ahead of that of the nation.

Furthermore, According to Asif, an All Parties Conference (APC) might be held in order to get an agreement on the operation.
