KARACHI: The city of Karachi’s government declared Friday, June 29, to be a public holiday in honor of Hazrat Abdullah Shah Ghazi’s Urs, or death anniversary.

Murtaza Wahab, the mayor of Karachi, officially declared the vacation.

According to Wahab, on Saturday all of the offices that fall under the purview of the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC) will be closed. He did, however, emphasize that the offices in charge of carrying out necessary services will continue to operate throughout the public holiday.

According to the mayor, the city council’s resolution was followed in announcing the public holiday.

Every year, between Zilhaj 20 and 22, the devoted saint’s Urs is commemorated at his shrine in Clifton, Karachi.

Governor Kamran Tessori of Sindh gave the opening remarks during the 1,294th annual Hazrat celebrations.

The governor prayed for the nation’s progress and placed a wreath on the saint’s tomb. Subsequently, the governor gave the pilgrims food, drink, juice, and clothing.

Every year, the beloved saint’s urs is observed with traditional fervor and festivities like milad and qawwali. Due to their deep love and reverence for the saint, people travel great distances to participate in the Urs processions from various parts of the port city, interior Sindh, and other parts of the nation.
