The 12 teams for the upcoming T20 World Cup, which will be held in India and Sri Lanka in 2026, have been decided with the recent end of the competition.
There will be twenty teams in the next ICC competition, split into four groups of five teams each.
As the event’s hosts, Sri Lanka and India have secured the first two berths. The Super Eight qualifiers at the 2024 and T20I team rankings decided the next ten berths.
Along with the United States, this allowed Afghanistan, Australia, Bangladesh, England, South Africa, and the West Indies to win seats in the 2026 T20 World Cup.
Nevertheless, Babar Azam’s team, along with New Zealand (6th) and Ireland (11th), managed to guarantee their spot in the following edition with their T20I position of seventh.
Regional qualifications will confirm the last eight teams for the 2026 World Cup in the meanwhile.
The continents of Africa, Asia, and Europe each have two qualifying positions, while the Americas and East Asia and Pacific each have one.
