ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has stated that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) ordinance modifications are not personal to him, but rather concern the entire nation.
In his written plea before the supreme court, Khan stated, “This was not about personal gain but the greater good of our country and millions of Pakistanis who place their faith in a system that should serve them.”
Making reference to an earlier order from the highest court, the former premier made the plea.
The PTI founder’s statement was made last month while the Supreme Court was delaying its decision on the appeals filed by the federal and provincial governments against the ruling of the high court’s majority 2-1 decision from September 15, which was announced by a bench presided over by former Chief Justice Umar Ata Bandial.
Imran Khan filed a top court appeal to the National Accountability (NAB) Ordinance modifications made by the Pakistan Democratic Movement administration in 2022.
The decision was made because the imprisoned prime minister and CJP Isa have a tumultuous past. In 2019, the former’s government filed a presidential reference against the latter for allegedly possessing properties abroad in the names of his children and wife but failing to disclose them in his wealth declaration.
