The 35-year-old, who has previously finished three ultramarathons in the Arctic and the Amazon Rainforest, is currently an endurance athlete, podcaster, and business owner.
Additionally, he has participated in the Marathon des Sables, which is known as the “toughest footrace on Earth” and is a seven-day, 250-kilometer ultramarathon held in the Sahara Desert.
And he’s going to do the equivalent of five of those, consecutively.
“I think I will come out of this quite different” , he stated.
Speaking with News, Matthews discussed his most recent endeavor—running 786 kilometers entirely on sand in weather that will probably average in the mid-forties.
There has never been anything like this before, therefore he will begin near the Arabian Desert’s edge at Wadi Rum and end close to the Dead Sea.
In order to achieve the world record, Matthews needs to stick to running on sand alone—a layer of sand on top of a field of grass, for instance—and complete each marathon run in less than six hours.
