BIRMINGHAM: All-rounder Shahid Afridi stated that Pakistan’s champions are motivated to advance in the World Legends Championship (WCL) 2024 by defeating their West Indian opponents in the semi-finals on Friday.

“All the teams’ players are determined to win the semi-final and make it to the final […] fans will get great entertainment if Pakistan vs India takes place,” stated the all-rounder.

Pakistan, captained by Younis Khan, was among the strongest teams in the group stage; they defeated South Africa in their last group game after winning four of their five games and registering impressive victories over Australia, India, the West Indies, and England.

After taking a two-match break, pacer Sohail Tanvir declared himself fit for the championship match.

Sharjeel Khan (209 runs) and Shoaib Malik (204 runs) are two of the tournament’s top five scorers, and Sohaib Maqsood (182 runs) is another Pakistani hitter in the top 10 run-getters. Pakistani batters also displayed tremendous promise on the squad.

However, despite winning just two of their five group matches, the West Indies, captained by Daren Sammy, advanced to the semifinals because they outperformed South Africa in terms of Net Run Rate (NRR).

West Indies lost their opening game of the tournament by 55 runs against Australia, but they won their next two games against South Africa and England. They had suffered defeats in their previous two games against Pakistan and India, therefore these were their final triumphs in the group stage.
