As mercury soars in Karachi, 20 bodies recovered from different areas

Karachi has been in grip of heatwave for last few days as citizens face hours-long unannounced loadshedding

Two more people have died in Karachi due to the extreme heat, and in the past 24 hours, at least 20 bodies have been brought to different hospitals in the city.

The number of bodies has now reached 20, according to rescue personnel, who said on Thursday that they had received eight more from various parts of the city today.

They added that the remains had been moved to the Civil Hospital, Jinnah Hospital, and Abbasi Shaheed Hospital and that they appeared to be drug addicts.

They said that one body each was retrieved from II Chundrigar Road, Clifton, Malir, Quaidabad, and Super Highway, and that three victims were discovered in the Lyari neighborhood of Jehanabad.

Concurrently, the Sindh Health Department announced earlier today that, following the two deaths recorded at the Civil Hospital today,In addition, the health department disclosed that in the previous day, around fifty cases of heatstroke were documented.

Despite the power utility’s claims, the port city has been experiencing a heatwave for the past few days, making life miserable for the majority of people who must endure hours-long unscheduled load shedding.

The temperature in the city was 40.5°C a day before, but it felt much warmer at 56°C.
